It seems Corvette fans have started to find some redeeming qualities to the C4. Some of that might have to do with 80s nostalgia, especially as kids of the era start reaching Corvette-buying age — curse you, stereotypes!
But a bigger factor is likely that the C4 has become THE affordable option when it comes to classic Vettes. When you can get ‘em wet for less than six grand, why not get a C4 instead of a Viagra prescription?
On paper, this 1985 Callaway job is a steal at $5,950. A stock 1985 Corvette in good condition is valued at $6,300 by
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
and you’d expect Callaway’s
twin-turbo
customization work to
boost
(heh get it?) the value a bit. Correction: Looks like it might be just a body kit and some minor upgrades and not actually turbo’d.
This example, which is listed on the
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
, is just shy of 100,000 miles and has started having issues with its 4+3 manual transmission. Per the listing, overdrive won’t engage and the speedometer has stopped working.
So it needs a little work. No big deal. Is that so much to ask for when you get the extra horses of a Callaway for the price of a stock 1985 Corvette?
UPDATE (from Callaway itself):
The car in question is not an original B2K and thus not twin-turbo as I assumed. But even they lean NP because of the valuable aero kit.

Wow, I would have thought it would be way more expensive.

considering it was twice the price as a base vette, way, way more expensive.....

Shit’s crazy. I’m guessing they may be scared by the 4+3 repairs? Who knows. It’s an NP to me.

NP if a legitimate Callaway. Or hell even if not considering what the body kit would cost to buy. ZF 6spd swap and call it a day. Or how about a Sledgehammer tribute for standing mile events?

I'm not big on the side vents. I can live with the front bumper though.

NP all day... I may have to talk to my wife about this......You know why you see old guys in the sports cars? It’s not because of a mid life crisis, it’s because they couldn’t aford what they wanted when they were young and broke.

Oh I know. I’ll be an old guy in a Corvette. I have come to peace with that.

I’m enjoying my ‘go cart’ stage with my 500...maybe next one will be a ‘vette....age has its advantages.

Holy fuck, yes, NP. Upgrade the transmission and tires and be prepared to cruise around in glorious ‘Murican 80s style!
Also, why does it have two different targa tops? First a white one and then a tinted glass unit.
Here’s a BAT for a ‘96 with 13k miles for 12.5k$

I too would think a Calloway would cost considerably more.
As for the C4, that's probably my favorite body style of Corvette. Specifically the 91+ restyle.

Ugg...I’m getting old. I remember being obsessed with these when I was a kid. Weren’t they called “Callaway Supernatural” or something?
I remember my dad and I drove a fair distance to see one at a dealership.
Looking at it now I’m like “that is hideous and tacky.” And I actually like C4’s.

The callaway was one of those dream cars when I was a kid. But the twin turbo setup was reserved for the ‘sledgehammer’ version I think. Otherwise it was just a ground effects package and chip/cam. (I think). But if this really has twin turbos and is only $6K, I’m thinking it’s a bogus ad from somebody in Somalia.

Now that you mention it, I don't see twin turbos in the engine bay pic. I just hear Callaway and equate it to twin turbos.

The Super Naturals were a bit later and a bit more extreme. They actually raced them at Le Mans a couple times.

Not the turbo B2K option. Just callaway body. Engine is a closer to stock TPI with a different intake manifold though. So it does have something over the normal L98/

Yeah didn’t even look at the engine bay pic when I posted. I’ve just always equated Callaway to turbos. Thanks for pointing it out.

Because it’s a Callaway, for that price, I hestitated a second. Then I remembered it’s a ‘Vette that is neither a C1 nor a late model C7. Crack pipe.

The B2K was an RPO twin turbo Callaway C4 that sold fairly well. Conservatively rated at just over 400 horsepower and 580 lb/ft by 1991 from a turbocharged (but otherwise very much a plain old 350 ) SBC with a factory warranty to boot, and not much lower numbers back in ‘87!

I’d say that’s a nice price... and plan for a tranny swap or have the Doug Nash 2 speed unit rebuilt.
